Make Something!! was a program created by film director and artist, Aaron Rose for high school kids supported by Nike. It was two weeks of workshops that gave kids the opportunity to make everything from shoes, apparel, posters, puppets, to learning how to design a magazine… this magazine! They had the opportunity to collaborate and design shoes with Kevin Durant and learn to shoot with Todd Selby.
I was brought it to help lead the session on How to make a magazine alongside Emma Reeves from V Magazine. I created a fake magazine and then we taught the kids how to redesign it. They learned everything from hand-lettered and collage, to photo editing and design. It was a wonderful exercise.
The magazine that the kids designed was then distributed at the World Basketball Festival event at Ruckers Park in Harlem, New York.
